    Hi, Garry,
I read your article about connecting RasPI with webcam. You did not experienced problems with long term stability of the PI? I am trying to capture frame from Logitech C270 webcam and FTP it twice to my Windows web server, but the communication is lost once every few hours, at most days. In the /var/log/messages there are usually lots of errors like
    May 22 23:59:50 raspberrypi kernel: [86371.667742] smsc95xx 1-1.1:1.0: eth0: Failed to write register index 0x00000014
    May 22 23:59:50 raspberrypi kernel: [86371.667789] smsc95xx 1-1.1:1.0: eth0: Failed to write HW_CFG_LRST_ bit in HW_CFG
and the ethernet communication is lost (no ping etc). I run this PI headless, so I CRONed reboot on the midnight, after reboot it just works again. I saw description of this on the various forums, but authors are usually convinced that problem is solved with new firmware. I very frequently update OS (Raspbian Wheezy) as well as firmware, but the problem persists. I tried second PI (I have one 256MB and one 512MB) and second powered USB hub, both hubs have switching power supplies rated 5V/2A.
Another question is, can you provide more information regarding mjpeg streamer/motion on PI? Only webcam software I managed to get working with better than VGA resolution is fswebcam.
    Greetings from Czech Republic.

    Hi Vladimir

We done several things to mitigate this from happening by marking the OS as read only and moving the logs onto a partition along with the images we were saving. We didn’t ever seem to have any issues with the stability but did notice with some webcams the power requirements did cause issues – I would start by looking there.

I’m afraid you won’t get anything than vga resolution from a Pi we could manage 640×480 but higher resolutions would cause an issue and we were working at 5fps.

I hope this answers your questions, or at least some pointers.

    Thanks

    Gary

Well its not the equipment cost its the hooking everything up together, its better to stipulate what the project actually entails and what the budget is first I think.

      thanks

      Gary
